The Indian Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), pressed into action after mine Collapse in Assam’s Dima Hasao District have recovered body of a fourth miner from the site. The identity of the deceased was not immediately known.

An NDRF official told ANI that water level in the flooded mine is reducing.

“The water level has been reduced by six metres. Five pumps were working overnight. The operation is going on 24 hours,” said Inspector Singh, Team Commander, NDRF.

He added that the water was receding.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma previously told media that nine workers were trapped in the rat-hol coalmine.

The police have arrested two people in the case: Hanan Laskar and Punish Nunisa. Laskar is the head of mine workers. He fled the scene after the mishap on Monday. Nunisa is the leaseholder of the mine.
